WORKFLOW

1. Ask to see a reference photo for makeup/hair before you start work. I ask clients to have a reference photo for their makeup, so you can get an idea of how strong they like their makeup. I do tell them to have a reference photo of themselves, to avoid situations where they show models who look completely different. I’m also thinking of suggesting trials for people who are extremely picky or not sure what they want.

2. The photoshoot day is all about the client. Ask them questions about them, give them a little encouragement etc. Sometimes they just want to relax and not talk too much. We go with their energy. We don’t encourage complaining because what we focus on - grows. We want the energy to be positive. To get positive energy flowing, we ask questions like: are you going out today, cause you will look amazing? What fun things will you do with the photos? Questions that will have positive answers. No politics, covid politics or religion debates please. This day is all about creating amazing imagery for them :)

3. Please check about which false lashes to use. Majority of women want natural looking lashes but every once in a while, they have a bold look and want big lashes.

4. Ideally, the client should be ready in 1 hour 30 minutes. Have them check if there’s lipstick on the teeth and if the lashes are not sticking out.

5. Once you’re done, ask “How do you like your look?”. Please give the client space, it’s a good idea to also excuse yourself and go wash your hands at this point, so they don’t feel pressured. Sometimes women are shy and don’t say anything and then after the hmua leaves they tell me “Agnes, I don’t like my look”, which leaves me in a very difficult position. I’m not a hmua and I can’t fix it.

6. I will take a few test shots to check the look. It’s important that the lashes are properly attached, lips are properly lined and fly aways are minimal.

7. Feel free to leave a business card. If they’re happy, it’s very likely they’ll book you again. Please don’t offer our clients free photoshoots. I want all of us to get paid for our talent and hard work.
