The Founders Everyone Trusts Have These Things in Common

As a photographer, I've had the privilege of capturing many founders up close and over time, I started noticing patterns in the ones who earned trust with their visual presentation versus the ones who just performed it. I've been applying those same lessons to my own marketing as a photographer, and they've made a real difference in my 13+ years career.

Here are 3 signals worth leaning into if you want that kind of trust:

1. Consistency

Anyone can send a great newsletter when business is booming. The founders people trust send one when it isn't. That's the real test: showing up in the slow months, the awkward pivots, the quiet stretches not just when there's a launch or a win to celebrate. Consistency isn't about having something ground breaking to say every time. It's about being present as a grounded expert whether or not you do.

2. Confidence

The founders people trust look like whatever life stage they're actually in. Tired after a launch. A few years older than their first headshot. Genuinely smiling instead of posing. That's confidence, because people trust someone who seems comfortable in their own skin.

3. Approachability

Real photos. Real graphics. Not AI-generated stock stand-ins dressed up as "content". When a founder uses AI-generated visuals instead of actual photos of themselves, their team or their work, it quietly signals there's no real person behind the brand or worse, that there's something not worth showing. Approachable founders let people see the actual human: the actual office, the actual face, the actual handwriting on a whiteboard.
