Use Your Photos Online: A Guide for Businesses & Professionals

In today’s online world, using your personal branding photos correctly is very important.

Your photos are a strong, visual voice, they should tell the story of who you are and what you do so you can communicate the value of your work and connect with ideal clients.

HERE ARE IMPORTANT USES FOR YOUR BRAND PHOTOS:

  1. Your website & blog

Your hero image (first image on the website) combined with others sends a message to your audience about your level of expertise, your price points and builds your know, like, trust factor.

Blogging is very important for your SEO. Use your brand photos (both portraits and lifestyle images) and don’t rely solely on stock imagery.

2. Your newsletter

A newsletter is a fantastic way of staying in touch with your clients, sharing value and service info. It really is a must if you want to have repeat clients. When your newsletter offers value, people will often forward it to their friends.

Use a photo of yourself in the footer of the newsletter to better build a connection with your recipients.

3. LinkedIn Profile + LinkedIn Content

Your LinkedIn photo is often the first impression in a professional context. It’s not just a profile image, it’s your credibility signal.

Use your brand photos for:

* Profile headshot (clear, confident, current)

* Banner image (your positioning, not stock imagery)

* Featured section (articles, talks, offers)

* Posts (especially thought leadership content)

Consistent imagery builds recognition and reinforces your authority over time.

4. Your e-mail signature

A great e-mail signature goes a long way. It should include your headshot for the purpose of building a connection. People always like to see a face behind a business. Your clients will also remember you better when they see a photo of you.

5. Your Instagram

Please remember that if you want people to remember you and know who you are, it is simply not enough to only show your face in your profile photo.

When building a personal brand, use a photo of yourself at least once every 9/12 posts (preferably 9!).

For high end businesses, use mostly or only professional photos. Otherwise, you can mix both professional and phone photos (still looking nice and on brand though!)

6. Your business card

Please don’t forget about putting your photo on the business card. If you have a more modern card, you can easily put the information on one side of it and your photo on the other side for a clean look. When giving out business cards, majority of people won’t even remember you unless there’s a photo on the card.

7. Your Media Kit

If you are speaking or want to speak at events, conferences, panels or workshops, you need a Media Kit.

Your brand photos are used for:

* Speaker bios

* Event websites

* Conference programs

* Promotional posters

* Podcast + webinar guest features

Strong imagery increases perceived expertise before you even speak.

Anatomy of an Iconic Brand Photo

Today, let’s look at 3 elements of an iconic Brand Photo:

  1. WOW factor

    Your brand photo should make people stop scrolling. There has to be something about it —energy, movement, a bold expression, or an unexpected detail — that makes it stand out. A little motion, like a flowing skirt pictured here or a confident stride, adds life and personality, making your photo feel dynamic instead of just another headshot.

  2. Clarity

    A great brand photo instantly tells people what you do. There should be no confusion. Think about props, location, or even your expression—does your photo make it obvious what kind of work you're in? If you're a photographer, holding a camera makes sense. A chef? Maybe you're in the kitchen plating a dish. A business coach? That confident, approachable stance in a stylish office speaks volumes. The goal is to make your audience get it without needing a caption.

  3. Great Outfit

    What you wear in your brand photo matters more than you think. The best outfit is one that not only looks good but also feels like you. It should be something you’d actually wear when meeting clients or showing up for work—polished but not forced. Think of colors, textures, and accessories that reflect your personal style and make you feel confident. Because when you feel good in what you’re wearing, it shows.

    When these three elements come together, your brand photo becomes more than just a picture—it becomes a powerful first impression. So next time you’re in front of the camera, keep these in mind and make sure your photo truly represents you.

Nicole’s Photo/Video Content Day ✨

We’ve had the pleasure of working with incredible Nicole a few times now and due to her social media growth, Photo/Video Content Day was the best option for capturing both photo and video content. By dedicating a day to capture both, entrepreneurs can free up a lot of their time to focus on other tasks.

We captured both photo and video content during this Content Day.

I loved every minute of this photo shoot! Agnes goes above and beyond to make the day special, comfortable and have your personality shine through.
