How to Be Confident In Front of the Camera

How to be confident in front of the camera? A lot of people struggle with it.

Over 20 years of photographing people I’ve heard it all: I’m awkward in front of the lens, I don’t know how to pose, I’m not photogenic, I don’t know what to wear… yet by the time the photo shoot is ending, everyone wants more! Great photos give an incredible confidence boost and are cherished forever.

How can you feel more confident in front of the camera? Lovely Juliana Leamen, Holistic Menopause Transition Expert, interviewed me about this topic on her podcast:

Vaishali

Vaishali has been one of the first participants of our 40 over 40 Experience this year. It has been wonderful photographing women over 40 and I can’t wait to share more shoots with you. We have met incredible women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and approaching 70 and we’re so excited for the exhibit! If you want to participate, fill out a form HERE.

We asked Vaishali questions about beauty and confidence over 40:

What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty is confidence, kindness and empathy. You need enough of these to lift others, while also taking care of yourself.

What do you love about yourself?

I love that I am a driven individual that thrives in change. I excel at giving myself challenges and then setting plans to achieve them. I am a firm believer in change for the good, whether it’s in the small ways in which we may organize a desk or our closets, to the big things such as how do I parent my kids, how can I become a more giving member of my community, how can I change for the better. I also love my sense of humour and ability to bring levity to situations. Life and work can get heavy, it’s great to get through these times of heaviness with levity at the right times.

What makes you feel beautiful?

My dedication to my health and working out makes me feel strong and confident, and therefore beautiful. I also feel beautiful when I’m smiling because a smile comes from the inside and I’m thinking of positive thoughts when I’m smiling.

How do you nurture your confidence?

I nurture confidence in building positive relationships with those around me. I give praise and admiration whenever I feel it, and I don’t hold back. I nurture confidence through taking care of my health through working out. I nurture confidence through building meaningful relationships around me and investing quality time with my loved ones and friends.

Before this photoshoot, when was the last time you did something for yourself?

When I turned 45, I gave myself a birthday that was all about me. It was the first time I ordered all the things I would enjoy, without putting everyone else ahead of me. So it’s been nearly a year!

What Photos To Use For Online Dating (for men)

Online dating doesn’t have to be frustrating!

Follow these tips to avoid online dating photo mistakes. You can also book a photo shoot and experience the change!

  1. Post solo photos

You may want to show you love your friends, but if all or most of your photos are picturing groups, it’s very confusing. This is about showing You. It’s ok to include one photo with your friends.

  2. Use a combination of professional and phone photos

Professional photos are sharp, creative and they focus on you thanks to the use of clean backdrops. They will make you stand out for sure. Go easy on editing requests - you should look your best but still like you.

  3. Don’t use old photos

There’s no excuse for using outdated photos, especially if you did change quite a bit. Be authentic with your presentation to avoid uncomfortable dates.

  4. Don’t use mirror selfies

Please, just don’t. They are usually very messy, showing bedrooms, bathrooms, gym lockers or even mirror smudges.

  5. Don’t hide your face and go easy on accessories

Even if sunglasses are you favourite accessory, skip them. People want to see your eyes and your face clearly, so avoid sunglasses, hats, helmets, masks etc.

  6. Use black & white photos

You may not realize this, but black & white photos do very well!

Spring Favourites 2022

Spring is finally here!

Warmer temperatures, nature waking up to life, all of these lift my spirits. Check out some of the things I’ve been enjoying a lot this spring.

HIGH WAIST JEANS

I’ve been living in them, because they’re simply extremely comfortable.

I’ve heard some rumors about low rise jeans coming back, but I’m not really willing to switch anytime soon.

HUGO BOSS PERFUME

I’m a bit of a perfume lover and I think putting on nice perfume in the morning can really lift your mood.

This perfume is very delicate and perfect for spring and summer.

A DEEPER WELLNESS

This book simply blew my mind. It’s written by Dr. Monica Vermani, a Clinical Psychologist. I really wish I had it years ago, it helped me understand so much about myself. It’s the best book about mntal health I’ve red in years, written by a true expert.

MALIBU RISING

Synopsis: Four famous siblings throw an epic party to celebrate the end of the summer. But over the course of twenty-four hours, their lives will change forever.

Malibu Rising is a story about one unforgettable night in the life of a family: the night they each have to choose what they will keep from the people who made them... and what they will leave behind.

GANGUBAI

Synopsis: Young Ganga is tricked by her boyfriend with the promise of a film career and persuaded to leave the countryside for Mumbai. In Mumbai her dreams of a film career come crashing down and she is lured to the underworld.

FARM BOY CUCUMBER & MELON WATER

When temperatures start rising, I drink much more water. Flavoured waters can be a hit or miss, but this one is my absolute recent favourite!

PHOTO OF THE SEASON

We captured this photo of beautiful Eugenia as part of our 40 over 40 campaign, during which we celebrate beauty, wisdom and power of all women over 40! You can become part of this project and learn more about it here: 40 over 40
