Guide: Use Your Photos Online

In today’s online world, using your personal branding photos correctly is very important.

Your photos are a strong, visual voice, they should tell the story of who you are and what you do so you can communicate the value of your work and connect with ideal clients.

HERE ARE IMPORTANT USES FOR YOUR BRAND PHOTOS:

  1. Your website & blog

Your hero image (first image on the website) combined with others sends a message to your audience about your level of expertise, your price points and builds your know, like, trust factor.

Blogging is very important for your SEO. Use your brand photos (both portraits and lifestyle images) and don’t rely solely on stock imagery.

2. Your newsletter

A newsletter is a fantastic way of staying in touch with your clients, sharing value and service info. It really is a must if you want to have repeat clients. When your newsletter offers value, people will often forward it to their friends.

Use a photo of yourself in the footer of the newsletter to better build a connection with your recipients.

3. Your e-mail signature

A great e-mail signature goes a long way. It should include your headshot for the purpose of building a connection. People always like to see a face behind a business. Your clients will also remember you better when they see a photo of you.

4. Your Instagram

Please remember that if you want people to remember you and know who you are, it is simply not enough to only show your face in your profile photo.

When building a personal brand, use a photo of yourself at least once every 9/12 posts (preferably 9!).

For high end businesses, use mostly or only professional photos. Otherwise, you can mix both professional and phone photos (still looking nice and on brand though!)

5. Your client presentations/proposals/ price list

Present yourself as a valuable professional by subtly using your photo in client presentations.

I really do hope you’re taking the chance that is a value-packed client presentation/proposal or price list and that you’re not just sending some naked numbers to potential customers.

Omitting this step is one of the biggest mistakes business beginners make.

Use two photos (one in the beginning of the presentation combined with a logo/one at the end) or just one photo at the end of the presentation.

You can include a short bio/company info/statement.

6. Your business card

Please don’t forget about putting your photo on the business card. If you have a more modern card, you can easily put the information on one side of it and your photo on the other side for a clean look. When giving out business cards, majority of people won’t even remember you unless there’s a photo on the card.

What do you love about yourself?

I love that I am a driven individual that thrives in change. I excel at giving myself challenges and then setting plans to achieve them. I am a firm believer in change for the good, whether it’s in the small ways in which we may organize a desk or our closets, to the big things such as how do I parent my kids, how can I become a more giving member of my community, how can I change for the better. I also love my sense of humour and ability to bring levity to situations. Life and work can get heavy, it’s great to get through these times of heaviness with levity at the right times.

How do you define beauty at this point in your life? What makes you feel beautiful?

Beauty at this point in my life is having grey hair, fine lines and wrinkles, scars, etc. that show a life that is well lived.

Ria

How do you nurture your confidence?

I nurture my confidence with physical activity, I always feel better and stronger after a workout. I also challenge myself to do things that I would normally not do or even avoid. That way when I accomplish them, it is like score one for Karen!

Karen

How did your photos help you with your confidence?

Seeing myself in the photos helped me appreciate just how good I really do look at 50! I was proud of myself for pushing myself outside my comfort zone. I realized I actually have a pretty smile after all which is something I had been self conscious about for years.

Tracy

Why are you proud of yourself at this point in your life?

At times I have to remind myself that I have many accomplishments to be proud of; I have always been financially stable and self dependent, I am a very successful Mom of two incredible kind and loving teenagers, I have overcome so many emotional and heartbreaking challenges....I am not ok with being a survivor, I am a THRIVER!
I am so proud of the relationships I have maintained for 3 plus decades and the way my sphere describes me as a friend; loyal, honest, empathetic, loving, selfless, supportive, creative, adventurous, and fun!

Lisa

Before this photo shoot, when was the last time you did something special for yourself that you desired?

This photoshoot was truly the first thing I have ever done on my own for me that was fun and exciting and enjoyable. The whole experience was amazing. I want to do this again in my 50’s!
