This week, we are celebrating The Colour Black! Black makes me feel chic, effortless & it’s good for any occasion.

It's always a great idea to bring a favourite black piece and especially a Little Black Dress to a photoshoot.

Modern women have and love black clothes, but it wasn’t always like that.

"Black was traditionally the colour of mourning and it was considered a shockingly risque choice of colour for any self-respecting woman. When John Singer Sargent’s Portrait of Madame X was first shown to the Paris Salon in 1884, with subject, Madame Pierre Gautreu, wearing a revealing black satin dress with jewelled straps, it caused outrage.

The end of World War II ushered in a new era of post-war glamour. On 16 December 1946, a young designer named Christian Dior established the House of Dior. “You can wear black at anytime,” he said. “You can wear black at any age. You can wear it on almost any occasion. A little black frock is essential to a woman” (from "little black dress" by Chloe Fox)

"When a simple, short black dress, designed by Coco Chanel, appeared in American Vogue in 1926, it was dubbed "Chanel's Ford". Like the Model T, Henry Ford's popular car of the time - available in every colour "so long as it is black" - the inimitable French coutier's design was hailed as accessible to women of all classes. The dress, announced Vogue, was a "sort of uniform for all tastes... the frock that all the world will wear" (from "little black dress" by Chloe Fox)

Today, black dresses, suits, turtlenecks or jumpsuits are perfect for almost any occassion, and definitely a fantastic choice for a photoshoot!

"Marilyn Monroe knew better than anyone the force of simple sexuality. The contract she entered into with her clothes was always very clear-cut: she was the wearer and never the worn.

Marilyn arguably wore a Little Black Dress better than anyone else before or since, using its monochrome versatility to powerful, sensual effect." (from "little black dress" by Chloe Fox)

I haven't always been a fan of black, but I've grown to really love playing with different shapes, textures and silhuettes. As Chloe Fox stated, black has the "ability to shift shape through times, eras and fashion movements yet still remain its pertinence".

Make sure to bring unique black pieces to your next photoshoot!
